Complaints procedure
The Wkkgz (Healthcare Quality, Complaints and Disputes Act) came into effect on January 1, 2017. This law stipulates the obligation for all healthcare providers in the Netherlands to join a recognized disputes committee. As a member of the NVPA, the complaints and disputes committee of the SCAG (Complementary Healthcare Foundation) and the disciplinary rules of the TCZ (Complementary Healthcare Disciplinary Law Foundation) apply. Most clients are satisfied with their therapist, but this may not be the case. A good conversation with your therapist will usually resolve your dissatisfaction or complaint. If, unfortunately, you are unable to reach an agreement, we refer you to the NVPA website.
For more information, see the SCAG client brochure
As of January 1, 2019, the Improved Reporting Code for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse came into effect, and a right to report exists. This means that professionals may break their professional confidentiality to report any signs of domestic violence. My practice uses a document with a 5-step plan for suspected domestic violence.
The Safe Incident Reporting (VIM) is also part of the Healthcare Professionals Act (Wkkgz). Its goal is to learn from situations that have unintentionally caused or could have caused harm to the client. In my practice, I maintain a register of incidents.
The Data Breach Notification Act came into effect on January 1, 2016. This notification requirement stipulates that in the event of a serious data breach of personal data, the Dutch Data Protection Authority must be notified immediately within 72 hours of its discovery.
